MISSING MALYAYSIAN AIRLINES FLIGHT MH370 - SEARCH CONTINUES

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370  was a scheduled international passenger flight that disappeared on 8 March 2014 en route from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Beijing Capital International Airport.

The aircraft operating the service, a Boeing 777-200ER, last made contact with air traffic control less than an hour after take-off. The aircraft was operated by Malaysia Airlines and was carrying 12 crew members and 227 passengers from 15 nations and regions.

Investigators believe whoever was flying the Boeing 777 used terrain masking, which uses hills and mountains, to hide the plane from satellite systems.

The missing Malaysian plane may have secretly flown at just 5,000 feet to avoid radar, it was claimed tonight.

Taking a plane to such a low altitude - a technique called “terrain masking” - would have avoided detection on standard commercial radar equipment.

Police special branch officers are continuing to interview the families and friends of the captain, 53-year-old Zaharie Ahmad Shah, and first officer, 27-year-old Fariq Abdul Hamid.

Eleven days have passed since Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 went missing, and 26 nations are struggling to search for the airliner over an area roughly the size of Australia, or more than two-thirds the size of the United States.
