India tribals opposing ‘182-metre steel colossus of India’s Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’ plan set deadline
Tribals of 70 villages who have been refusing to offer their land to the Gujarat government for tourism facilities near an island in the Narmada river, the site for the world’s tallest statue, have set a deadline for meeting their long-standing demands.
According to Dipen Desai, leader of a coordination committee formed by the villagers to fight injustice meted out to them, three cabinet ministers who had invited 145 tribal representatives for talks had admitted that the villagers needed a square deal but had failed to give any assurance.

The villagers wanted the state government to meet their demands before October 31, the day Chief Minister Narendra Modi wants to lay the foundation for a 182-metre steel colossus of India’s Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The tribals, who have been staging demonstrations against forcible acquisition of their land, are demanding that the Modi regime drop its plan to develop tourism infrastructure in their hamlets, provide Narmada water for irrigating their fields and rehabilitation benefits to affected residents.
